Tooriss

/ˈtʊərɪs/ ▷

Tooriss is a philosopher and recent arrival to the Enclave, though unlike many others living there, uncertainty still lingers heavily beneath the surface. Thoughtful, intelligent, and deeply introspective, Tooriss has become increasingly troubled by the growing contradictions between the original principles of Damazanism and the modern interpretations now emerging from the Temple. Philosophically, many of Shizayus’ teachings no longer feel morally or spiritually consistent. Yet unlike Brodlar, Tooriss cannot dismiss the faith entirely. The eyes of the enormous statue of Damazan clearly change from time to time, and like the rest of the underwater community, Tooriss can physically feel the effects whenever the eyes of Damazan glow brightly or fall dark. These moments feel undeniably real, making the conflict far more difficult to resolve emotionally. As a result, Tooriss exists in a constant state of quiet internal tension: believing something within the religion is wrong while still finding it very difficult to believe that Damazan is anything other than a god. At the Enclave, Tooriss spends much of the time in discussion with Jembis and Brodlar, searching for understanding somewhere between reason, philosophy, and faith. Thoughtful, cautious, and deeply conflicted, Tooriss represents the difficult search for truth when belief and reason no longer align comfortably together.
